From the multifaceted Bolivian born Japanese and Norman-Brithish descent. creator Ibatabros, comes this remarkable alt-country rock new track "Travelling In Time" - a reflective single that captures the essence of his enchanting life journey through the guise of incessant country
melodies and that undeniable nostalgia sound. Recorded at his own studio, the song had been brewing in his mind for
years before gradually coming to life. Starting with an acoustic guitar foundation, Ibatabros meticulously added drums,
bass, guitars and percussion, playing every instrument himself - a method he has perfected over the past 20 years. With
lyrics inspired by personal growth and experiences, "Travelling In Time" offers an intimate glimpse into his world, with
the final mixing and mastering expertly handled by producer Matty Harris in California and co-produced by Ibatabros -
certainly not one to miss out on.
Known professionally as Ibatabros, José Ibata is a celebrated multi-instrumentalist, producer, and composer with a
dynamic career spanning genres and continents. Born in La Paz, Bolivia, José began his musical journey on drums at
the age of nine before moving to the UK, where he transitioned to electric bass and vocals. Trained by renowned multi-
instrumentalist Winston Ingran, José mastered the electric and double bass, alongside guitars, keyboards, and drums.
Jose has played and collaborated with a vast array of legendary artists such as Basement Jaxx, Raphael Ravenscroft,
Brian Turrington, Tony Franklin, Stu Hamer, and Lez Warner. He founded the critically acclaimed Latin fusion band
Bolivar UK, which made significant waves on the UK Latin scene with performances at iconic venues, including
Glastonbury Festival, and recordings at the legendary Abbey Road Studios. Their track “Merengue,” remixed by
Basement Jaxx, became a huge UK hit. As a solo artist under the name Ibatabros, José explores a broad spectrum of
new musical directions, blending Latin rhythms with rock, jazz, funk, and world music influences. His teaching and
workshops in the UK, Spain, and Bolivia have made him a respected mentor, and he continues to push towards new
boundaries at his Ibatabros Studios, where he produces and records across a diverse musical spectrum.

Your Next Alt-Rock Obsession: Ibatabros’ Pure Musical Euphoria – ‘Traveling in Time’

Jose Ibata, performing as “Ibatabros,” is a versatile producer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist whose talent has drawn collaborations with industry legends. His impressive portfolio includes work with saxophone icon Raphael Ravenscroft, bass virtuoso Michael Manring, and guitar maestro Bernie Holland. Working alongside respected artists like Nick Heyward and Tony Franklin, Ibata has established himself as a sought-after musical force. His ability to seamlessly navigate different musical roles and collaborate with diverse talents showcases his exceptional musicianship and adaptability in the industry.

Ibatabros’ “Traveling in Time” is an instant mood-lifter that wastes no time getting down to business. The moment those retro guitar riffs and head-banging beats kick in, you know you’re in for something special. When the vocals by Ibatabros join the party, it’s like finding that missing puzzle piece – crisp, energetic, and perfectly matched to the instrumentals.

But hold onto your hats for the 1:45 mark – that’s where the magic really happens. The guitar riffs explode into this intense bloom while the chorus kicks in, and it hits you like that first ray of sunshine after a storm. I literally caught myself saying “WOW!” out loud. It’s pure cinematic gold from there on out, pulling you deeper into its musical web.

This isn’t your typical country-inspired alt-rock track – it’s packed with little surprises that keep you grinning and tapping your feet throughout. That minute-long guitar solo in the second half is pure summer bliss that sends you straight to paradise.

The whole track by Ibatabros is built around this beautiful theme of self-discovery and personal growth. The way they use “Here We Go” as this uplifting mantra is genius – it’s like a battle cry for anyone facing life’s challenges. You can hear the journey in every note, from those initial riffs to the soaring choruses.

Contrary to popular belief, the Ibata Brothers do not run a crime sindicate in downtown La Paz, but front an exciting Latin dance band playing a combination of Jazz/salsa, merengue and other latin rhytms.Bolivar UK, a 10 piece outfit and habitues of the London Latin Scene, have brought their distinctive an vibrant music to Edinburgh for the entire festival.

Bolivar UK is one of the newer bands on the UK Latin scene and their Merengue is the most exciting track on the album.Once again, a guest Trumpeter is involved, this time Stu Hamer, who at one time graced the brass section of a Dizzy Gillespie big band and so is no stranger to the Latin beat.

[GLASTONBURY   FESTIVAL 1990]

The emergence up and down the country of a number of popular and busy bands playing Latin music has been one of the features of the UK's live Scene in the last ten years. Brothers Jose and Rolando Ibata have one of the most exiting of these groups, Bolivar UK. Since 1984 Bolivar UK have received extraordinarily Good Reviews from all over the country. Their sound is a mixture of bepop and Jazz, recalling the age of the Mambo and brilliant performers in New York like Tito Puente and Ruben Blades. At the heart of Bolivar UK  is the wicked percussion, the pulse of Afro-Latin music, woven brilliantly with Jose Ibata's rhythmic bass and Christian Vaughan'n authentic Latino piano style. A ten piece of supreme danceability and Class.

Bolivar UK caress you into submission; Theirs is a musically seductive approach. Very much to the fore are Bill Bland on Congas and Oscar Ruiz on Timbales, who add classy touches to the work of Brent Keefe on Drums.
Just as soothing is the Voice of Leader Jose Ibata, who sings as if recolling happier days in his native Bolivia. The ORANGE audience  added an essential ingredient to the evening.

Trumpeter Stu Hamer is the brother of trumpet player Ian Hamer.
I can find no biographical information of any significance. In his teens, like his brother he played in the band run by their mother Mary Daly Hamer in the Merseyside area. His only record available in the UK is a 1967 session with the Joe Harriott Quintet that proves him to be a superb trumpeter in the classic bebop style.
In the late 1950s he was playing in Germany and appeared on a couple of record dates:
June 23rd, 1958 An eleven piece band including Zoot Sims and Kenny Clarke - recorded somewhere in Germany...
September 29th, 1959 This was a twelve piece band of mostly German musicians and they recorded one title in Berlin...
Joe Harriott Quintet - June 20th, 1967 (Melodisc SLP12-150)
Joe Harriott (as), Stu Hamer (tp), Pat Smythe (p), Coleridge Goode (b), Phil Seamen (d).
Tuesday Morning Swing*/A Time For Love*/The Rake*/Blues In C*/Shepherd's Serenade*/Polka Dots And Moonbeams*/Strollin' South*/Just Goofin'*/Count Twelve. (*Cadillac CD - Joe Harriott Quintet Swings High)
On November 7th, 1968 the Dizzy Gillespie Reunion Big Band played a 20th and 30th anniversary concert in Berlin.
The five piece trumpet section included Dizzy Gillespie, Dizzy Reece and Stu Hamer and the record was issued on the German label MPS...
c1968 the Dizzy Gillespie and his Orchestra played a another concert in Europe, probably Italy.
The five piece trumpet section included Gillespie, Reece and Hamer and the band recorded one title which was issued on an Italian label...
Keith Greenhalf adds the following:
"He played with a latin group called 'Bolivar UK  '[Ibatabros}around the 1984/87 period and appears on one title with them from a cd recorded at the Bass Clef Studio over the club in probably 1986. That title is 'Merengue' and the cd sleeve says he appears as a special guest. He seems to have played regularly with them in this period. The cd is called 'Samba con Salsa' on Bass clef 31".
